3 days in Seychelles: fruit and vegetable stalls at the Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market in Victoria

3 Days in Seychelles

A short Mahé itinerary — Victoria, a mountain walk, a boat day and the island’s best beaches.

With 3 days in Seychelles, stay on one island. Mahé is the obvious choice: the international airport is here, distances are manageable and the island packs the capital, mountain trails, marine parks and some of the country’s best beaches into a small area. Trying to add Praslin or La Digue to a three-day trip usually means spending a large part of it in transit.

This itinerary suits a short stopover, a long weekend from the region or a first taste of the islands before a longer trip. It assumes you arrive on day 1 and leave on day 3; adjust it to your flight times.

Who 3 days in Seychelles suits

  • Travellers on a stopover or a short break.
  • First-time visitors who want a sample of beaches, nature and culture.
  • Anyone who prefers one base and no inter-island transfers.

Where to stay for 3 days in Seychelles

Choose one base for all three nights. Beau Vallon is the easiest for restaurants and a swimming beach; Victoria & Eden Island is central and close to the airport; South Mahé suits a quieter beach stay if you plan to drive.

Day 1: Arrival and Victoria

Settle in, then head for Victoria. Walk from the clock tower to the Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market, the Hindu temple and the cathedrals, then visit the botanical garden at Mont Fleuri to see coco de mer palms and giant tortoises. If your flight arrives late, keep the day to a short walk on the beach near your accommodation and move Victoria to day 3.

End the day at Beau Vallon for a swim and sunset.

Day 2: Mountains and the marine park

Start early with a walk in Morne Seychellois National Park. The Copolia trail is a popular choice for a short, steep climb to a granite viewpoint; the Morne Blanc trail is another. Go early to avoid the midday heat, carry water and wear proper shoes.

In the afternoon, take a boat trip into the Ste Anne Marine Park off Victoria — by glass-bottom boat, snorkelling excursion or semi-submarine — or relax on the beach if you prefer.

Day 3: South Mahé beaches

Drive or take a guided island tour south along the east coast, stopping at the craft village at Anse aux Pins and the beach at Anse Royale, then continue to the wild beaches of Anse Intendance and Anse Takamaka. Check sea conditions before swimming — the southern beaches can have strong waves and currents. Return towards the airport with time to spare before your flight.

If you have a fourth day

Add a long organised day trip to Praslin and La Digue, or spend the extra time on the west coast at Port Launay and Anse Soleil. See Things to do in Seychelles.

Tips for 3 days in Seychelles

  • Hire a car for at least one day; it makes the south coast far easier to reach.
  • Keep plans flexible around the weather — swap the boat and beach days if the sea is rough.
  • Shops close early on Saturdays and most are closed on Sundays.
  • See Travel Planning for seasons and practical essentials.

Is 3 days in Seychelles enough?

Three days is enough for a satisfying first taste of Mahé, but not for the classic island-hopping circuit. Think of it as a short break: one base, one hike, one boat trip and time on the beach. If you can stretch to five days, add Praslin with La Digue as a day trip; with a week, follow the 7-day itinerary.

To make 3 days in Seychelles feel unhurried, avoid packing every sight into each day. Leave an afternoon free for the beach closest to your accommodation, and keep the boat trip flexible in case the sea is rough. Most of all, resist the temptation to add an inter-island transfer: the time saved on Mahé is worth more than a brief glimpse of another island.
