The Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve protects a valley of palm forest in the centre of Praslin and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. It is the best-known place to see the coco de mer, the palm famous for producing the world’s largest seed, growing wild.
The reserve is managed by the Seychelles Islands Foundation and is visited on marked walking trails. Check current opening hours and entry arrangements with the Foundation before you go.
How to visit
Vallée de Mai is covered in this guide as a place to visit rather than a place to stay. See the Praslin guide for nearby bases and the island hopping guide for getting around.
