The Outer Islands are remote coral islands and atolls far from Mahé. Staying here is a specialist decision rather than a choice between areas: most islands have no visitor accommodation at all, and the few that do are reached by light aircraft.
What kind of trip they suit
The Outer Islands suit travellers looking for remote marine environments, fly-fishing, diving or wildlife, usually as an extension to a stay on the inner islands rather than as a first-time base.
Transfers and logistics
There are no public ferries. Transfers are by light aircraft from Mahé, arranged with the accommodation, and flight schedules, luggage limits and seasonal operations all need to be confirmed in advance.
How choosing accommodation differs
Instead of comparing neighbourhoods and many properties, you are choosing between a handful of remote islands, each with very limited accommodation. Some places, such as Aldabra Atoll, are protected and not conventional holiday destinations. Read the guides to Desroches, Alphonse, Platte, Astove, Cosmoledo and Farquhar.
Accommodation listings
Accommodation appears in the Outer Islands accommodation catalogue only when an exact listing with an approved booking partner has been verified. See also the Seychelles accommodation guide.
